The Last of Summer’s Roses






















We had guests to dinner on the 23rd, a little pre-Christmas celebration with dear friends.  I made three quiche with turkey Kielbaska, red bell pepper, green onions, and sharp cheddar cheese.  I also made sauteed green beans with garlic and a salad of fresh spinach, Napa cabbage, oranges, red onion, champagne vinaigrette, and lots of fresh ground sea salt and pepper.  I baked anise and almond biscotti for dessert, a recipe from my former office manager Debbie, and afterward we sipped Mariage Freres English Earl Grey tea.

I thought you would enjoy seeing the last of the summer roses in small trifle dishes which I used as centerpieces for the dinner.  The gorgeous mercury glass jar and candle from Anthropologie were a gift from David’s daughter Ashley.  Love, love, love!
